Director of External Relations
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
San Francisco Pride is the non-profit organization that produces the annual San Francisco Pride Celebration & Parade, as well as several other programs. SF Pride is dedicated to education about the LGBT community, the commemoration of LGBT heritage, and the celebration of LGBT culture and liberation. The annual budget is approximately $2 million. SF Pride has a seven-person staff, 11 contractors (responsible for services such as bookkeeping, and celebration specific services such as parade management), and an annual estimate of 400 volunteers. The Director of External Relations leads our communications and development team and is responsible for overseeing the efforts that bring in resources of both time and money to carry out our programs and operations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
External communications, including creating and distributing press releases, setting up press conferences, hosting SF Pride’s annual Media Party, and handling press inquiries
Manage website content
Supervise and contribute to the creation of the Inside Pride Guide magazine and Pocket Pride magazine
Write, edit, and publish the SF Pride e-newsletter
Direct the creation of advertising for Pride events and programs
Market SF Pride events and programs
Develop strategy around messaging
Manage SF Pride’s social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others as needed)
Supervise the following positions: Director of Sponsorship, Associate Director of Development, Community Relations Manager, and Projects & Events Manager
Create strategic direction for SF Pride’s fundraising efforts
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Development background, including proven success in bringing in large dollar amounts from foundations, donors, and corporate sponsors
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience working in media, publishing, marketing, and/or communications
Skill in putting on successful fundraising events
Supervision experience
HTML, Flash, and Java Script fluency
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual proficiency in verbal and written Spanish
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator experience
A fresh perspective in development and communications
